Spring Trends 2013

I know to some of you up north, especially after last week’s snow storms; it’s not feeling much like spring. But hold on its coming. So I thought I would give you something better to think about.

What’s hot in interiors for SPRING 2013…? Here are my picks.

METALS
Brass is one of those metals associated with decades past but it's not the polished brass we remember and it seems to be making a comeback. I think we will see interiors show a mixing of this metal with other silver toned metals.

Since we’re on the subject of metals and minerals, how about the emerald stone malachite? This mineral is showing up all over the place from shoes to earrings. This mineral is reported to have healing powers. I could really do some healing in this fabulous chair fabric designed by Jim Thompson.

 COLORS
The colors showing a rise this spring are blues, yellow, and red. Blues are showing up as universal neutral bases within a space. Yellow has a mellow tone. Red is still there, but in moderation.

RMSer BelleInteriors used this vivid wallpaper in this dining room using two of the trend colors for 2013, turquoise and red.

Don’t be afraid of red. Designer Erinn Valencich uses red here showing a design style for 2013 of Metropolitan. It’s feminine without being girly. It's the classic 40’s Hollywood style with soft clean lines with a pop of pink and red.
Wallpaper – this is not your grandmother’s wallpaper, ok. This new trend in wallpaper is bold, graphic and fabulous. This wallpaper is from Romo. This picture below is a bathroom that I am doing that is under construction with a similar wallpaper from Romo in yellow and gray.

(I’ll send another pic when it’s done)

PATTERNS
Don’t worry; your favorite zebra stripe is safe. Along with faux animal print will be what is called a faux bois print, which is a faux wood print seen here in a pillow.
If faux animal print and faux wood prints aren’t your thing, there will be plenty of geometric prints to fill your little hexagonal heart.

SCHEMES
Expect to still see monochromatic color schemes because they just work. This scheme would allow you to change the curtains and pillows seasonal if you wanted without having to redo the room.

You can also expect to see nature inspired schemes. This bedroom in the 2011 HGTV Green Home is using local pine and reclaimed wood in the space. I am a big fan of this type of design. I like to use pieces that I can find to use in a space.

ACCESSORIES
Without accessories our spaces would be very minimal, unless you like that sort of thing. But for me, I like the bling. I love it when you are getting to the accessorizing part of an interior design. Sometimes it can be very trial and error and sometimes you hit it out of the park. Remember to use white in your accessory bag of tricks because it always keeps things fresh.

It’s also a cool thing to incorporate animal heads into your design without making it look like lodge #51, unless that’s what you’re going for. This is a deer head I painted a gloss black to put into a young ladies dressing room that I just did.

Layering rugs is also a cool trend to add interest to a room. Doing this will allow you to purchase an expensive rug in a smaller more manageable price size to layer over another larger more inexpensive rug.

I hope you enjoyed our little journey through my picks for interior design trends for 2013. I hope you have a chance to incorporate some or all of them in your future fabulous designs. I know I’m planning on it!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. Have a Fabulous Day!!
